After weeks of bouncing between several of Hollywood’s hottest actresses Cameron Crowe has finally nailed down the female lead for his upcoming film We Bought a Zoo. According to Deadline, Scarlett Johansson has beat out Amy Adams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rachel McAdams to land the part.
Johansson is in final negotiations to star in the film based on the memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee. The story centers on how Mee and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo and filled it with 200 exotic animals facing destruction on the English countryside. Mee along with his children had to balance caring for his wife, who was dying of brain cancer, while dealing with escaped tigers, raising endangered animals, working with an eclectic skeleton crew and readying the zoo for a reopening.
Matt Damon has has been attached for months to play Mee, and we’re assuming that Johansson will play his wife. We’re not sure if we buy that combination but what can you do? In our opinion, Adams would have been a much better and believable pick.
We Bought a Zoo will be directed by Crowe and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
What do you think of Johansson’s casting in the film?
