Mary Jane Watson and Spider-Man are like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, ketchup and mustard…you get the point. Therefore, when Sony announced plans for a reboot of the Marvel film everyone wanted to know who was going to play those roles. We got our Peter Parker in the form of British actor Andrew Garfield, but Mary Jane is nowhere to be found, and according to a report from The Wrap, it’s going to stay that way.

When the shortlist of actresses who were in the running to play Peter Parker’s love interest was released, we were under the impression that he would have two women fighting for his affection: Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. In early October, Emma Stone was cast in the role of Gwen Stacy, the perky blond who was considered to be one of Parker’s greatest loves. It’s been over a month and we still haven’t received any news regarding her red-haired competition.

Sources are now saying that “Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the film after all, as the character is not currently featured in James Vanderbilt’s screenplay, and apparently never was.” Maybe they’ve realized that multiple love interests, would mean multiple storylines, which would complicate things more than they need to be.

We don’t have a horse in this race, you can have Gwen or Mary Jane, we’re all about Felicia Hardy over here.

What do you think about their decision not to have Mary Jane in the film?
