Is Tom Hardy the only talented actor in the early 30s group in Hollywood? The native Brit has been receiving movie roles left and right and we’ve just caught word of another one. According to Bloody Disgusting, the actor has been offered a part in the upcoming Tim Burton – Timur Bekmambetov collaboration, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
If you doubt Hardy’s ability to pull off Lincoln don’t worry, he’s not in the running to play the former prez. The Playlist claims that he’s up for the role of Henry Sturgess, a very important supporting character who helps Lincoln go from the president to the punisher. Think of him as the Giles to his Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He’s a trainer, watcher, and mentor all rolled into one.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictionalized creation of the former U.S President which mixes historical events with fantasy. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is known for his ability to blend classic figures and properties with old school horror elements. In the book and the film Lincoln is re-imagined as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin.
The Sturgess character “saved Lincoln’s life when he battles a vampire as a teenager, and the two become fast friends. Sturgess teaches Lincoln about the history of vampires, trains him in combat, and sends the president to hunt and kill evil vampires.” It would be awesome if Hardy took this on but he’s got so much on his plate right now we doubt it’s possible. With The Dark Knight Rises starting early next year he needs to get back into his Christopher Nolan state of mind. Abe and the vamps might have to wait.
Do you think Hardy should take the role? Who else could play the character?
