If you were a fan of the horror film Silent Hill, we’ve got good news for you. Today it was announced that its upcoming sequel has landed a director as well as a new title! The original film came out in 2006 and was based on the video game of the same name and now according to ShockTillYouDrop, there’s a lot more material on the way…
The original Silent Hill earned over $100 million at the worldwide box office when it was released four years ago. That wasn’t a huge financial success in comparison to some other video game adaptations but it was good enough to warrant a sequel. The follow up will be called Silent Hill: Revelations and it’s being packaged as another 3D horror film for the masses. Aren’t you excited about that (sarcasm)?
The newly appointed director is Michael J. Bassett, previously helmed Death Watch and Solomon Kane, both of which ran on the festival circuit. They actually promoted Kane at Comic-Con last year and it looked pretty decent but was never picked up for major distribution. It will be interesting to see what Bassett does with this Silent Hill material.
The story for the sequel centers on a “named Heather Mason who, on the eve of her 18th birthday, is plagued by nightmares and now has to investigate the disappearance of her father.” Hmmm, sounds vaguely familiar.
What do you think of the premise for Silent Hill 2? Do you think that Bassett is the right man for the job?
