The golden child of the upcoming awards season might be Joel and Ethan Coen’s True Grit. Their adaptation of the novel of the same name has all the makings of a critical darling thanks to its amazing cast, great material, and breathtaking visuals. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters this Christmas but according to a new report it’s been moved up a few days!

Word on the web is that Paramount will release True Grit on December 22nd. That’s 3 whole days earlier than its original date. We wonder what the motivation was behind that move? Could it be because of the crowded box office during the holiday season? The film’s biggest competition will be the 3D Jack Black comedy Gulliver’s Travels and the third installment of the Meet the Parents trilogy, Little Fockers.

Out of this trio, there’s literally something for everybody. I don’t really see the audience of Gulliver’s Travels cutting in on that of True Grit. Little Fockers might be an issue though. The cast has several older, veteran actors who might attract a similar crowd as the Coen brother’s flick but only time will tell.

What movie do you plan on seeing on December 22nd?
