We’ve got some extremely sad news to report today. Veteran actor James MacArthur, who was best known for playing “Danno” on the original incarnation of “Hawaii Five-O” has died. THR, is reporting that the actor passed away on October 26th at the age of 72. His death occurred 12 years after his “Hawaii” co-star Jack Lord, who he worked with during the show’s entire 12 season run.
MacArthur was raised in the film and television industry because of his notable family. His mother was the legendary actress Helen Hayes and his father was the famous playwright Charles MacArthur. He began his career as a child actor appearing in such classics as The Light in the Forest, Third Man on the Mountain, and our personal favorite Swiss Family Robinson!
After hitting it big on “Hawaii Five-O” MacArthur really made a name for himself. The actor became synonymous with the character Det. Williams, and the phrase, “Book’em Danno.” There were rumors that the producers of the new “Hawaii Five-O” were attempting to get the actor to appear on the series alongside the new cast but unfortunately that won’t happen.
At this time, no concrete information has been released as to what caused MacArthur’s death or where it took place.
