George Clooney is in the news again because of his next directorial feature. A couple months ago we reported on his big screen adaptation of the play Farragut North and he’s accumulated a dream team of actors to bring the story to life including Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling. We’ve also learned via I Am Rogue that the film also has a new title — The Ides of March.

Farragut North is based on the stage play of the same name that’s set in Des Moines, Iowa, just weeks before the state’s Democratic caucuses officially commence; it follows the exploits of a twenty something presidential campaign spinmeister/wunderkind named Stephen Myers, and the dirty pool he plays to get his candidate the nomination against a rival senator.

Prior to Gosling’s casting Chris Pine was being looked at to play the part of Myers. The Star Trek actor previously appeared in the stage production of North in 2009. Prior to his involvement Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to play the role as well. According to Variety, Gosling will lead the cast that will also include Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

Clooney will play a candidate running in the presidential primary race for the Democratic Party ticket. Gosling will play the role of press spokesman, Giamatti will be a rival campaign manager, Tomei stars as a reporter for the New York Times and Wood portrays an intern for the campaign.

Production on The Ides of March is scheduled to begin in February 2011.
