We knew that SyFy was up to no good when they revealed their plans for another “Battlestar Galactica” spin-off. The network announced last week that they were producing a new prequel called “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.” Now if you follow the “Galactica” timeline you know that SyFy already has another prequel on air called “Caprica,” so guess what? They canceled it! Apparently, there were too many cooks in the kitchen.

According to EW,

“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2,” said the network in a statement. “These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.”

Damn! Damn! Damn!! We knew there wasn’t enough room for both of them! SyFy claims that the cancellation was rooted in its ratings. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, “Caprica” has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

This news is unfortunate. If you were pulling for “Caprica” to stay on, you’re going to have to embrace the new prequel to get your “Battlestar” fix. “Blood & Chrome” will take place 10 years into the first Cylon War, does that interest you?

What do you think of SyFy’s decision to cancel Caprica? Were you surprised?
