Now that Marc Webb and Sony have found their Spider-Man, their Lizard (the villain), and their Gwen Stacy it’s time to flesh out the supporting cast. One of the main members being the Editor and Chief of The Daily Bugle – J.Jonah Jameson. The role was previously played by J.K. Simmons in the Sam Raimi trilogy and according to a report from What is Playing, Webb has a shortlist of actors ready to take his place.
The actors who currently have the director’s attention are John Slattery and Sam Elliot. Interestingly enough, both men have experience working with Marvel material. Slattery, who’s best known for his role as Roger Sterling on “Mad Men” previously played Howard Stark (Iron Man’s dad) in this summer’s Iron Man 2. On the other hand, Elliot has appeared in two comic properties, 2003′s Hulk as General Ross and 2007′s Ghost Rider as the Caretaker.
Over the next week, Webb will be reading with multiple actors for the part including some unknowns. Our choice would have to be Elliot. You can’t fake that mustache! He already has the basic look down for the part, he just needs to step up his loud mouth antics and he’ll be perfect.
Who do you think should play the role of J. Jonah Jameson?
