Disney is getting really clever with their marketing campaigns. First they made the decision to merge their upcoming sequel Tron Legacy with various characters from the Marvel Universe and now they’re doing the same with the NBA. With a little help from ESPN Magazine (also owned by the studio) they’ve given Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and several other stars some truly heroic alter egos. Take a look…

The photos appear in the latest issue of ESPN Magazine and you have to admit that some of them are pretty ruthless. For example Lebron James in the “Unamazing Cleveland Cavaliers” issue. Burn! We’re pretty sure the hometown fans of the team are going to be up in arms about that one. There’s also the photo of Mark Cuban, the owner of the Mavericks who’s made to look like a mad scientist, but then again, isn’t he?

All these photos once again prove how far Disney will go to cross-promote. Usually things like this are overkill, but a lot of great design went into these drawings. The most important element that they got right are the personalities. They fit each character perfectly.

Which photo is your favorite? Do you think the James’ cover is a bit harsh?
