Not that many people are familiar with the TV show “Skins.” It’s a British series that follows a group of teenagers who do bad things like drugs, have sex, do more drugs, and have more sex. MTV has released the first trailer for their long developing adaptation of the show, which they’ve remade for American audiences. Take a look [NSFW]…

From the looks of this trailer, they’ve recreated the first episode of the UK version almost scene for scene. Unfortunately, this show doesn’t capture the essence of the original. One of the reasons “Skins” was so good was because of its cast. Nothing against the American actors but they just aren’t cutting it.

The lead character on the show is Tony, an over-sexualized teenager who was played by Nicholas Hoult in the original. He was a pretty boy who exuded charisma and even though he did devious things you still liked him. Whoever this new guy is they have taking over the reigns is trying too hard. He needs to relax a bit and just let the magic happen.

Another notable actor who appeared on the show was Dev Petal, who was the star of the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

“Skins” is scheduled to debut on MTV in January 2011.
