Columbia Pictures has struck up a hot new film deal with the producing team of Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan. They along with Michael De Luca are developing a feature film based on the book “Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life,” which the studio just optioned the rights to.
Downey Jr. could possibly star in the adaptation that will center on “one man’s journey as “he sets out to move his life offshore, and in the process, he learns to survive in the wild, and remake himself as a gun-toting, lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying survivor. It’s a tale of paranoid fantasies and crippling doubts, of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, of billionaire gun nuts and survivalist superheroes, of weirdoes, heroes and ordinary citizens taking their families off the grid.”
The book was written by Neil Strauss and the screenplay will be penned by Wall Street Money Never Sleeps scribe, Allan Loeb. Strauss spent three years trekking through the U.S. and acquiring the tools to survive a major catastrophe because he wanted the book to be as accurate as possible. It’s set against a backdrop of tsunamis, hurricanes, terrorist attacks, and swine flu epidemics. Could you imagine Downey fighting his way through all of that?
Do you think Downey should star in Emergency!?
