Wow. And I mean wow. After a solid month or so of loaded DVD weeks with everything from a dozen TV series dropping in one day to multiple $300 million flicks competing for Blu-Ray space, we’ve come to this: Predators.
Yup, that’s it for this week – that sequel directed by a nimrod. Excuse me, that sequel directed by Nimrod. Yes, there’s also the tiny indie Please Give and the entire series of Accidentally on Purpose, but, in reality, this is one of the weakest DVD weeks of the year.
Check it out, if you dare…
And here we are: This year’s winner of the “Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 Award” for summer movie that was relentlessly promoted, didn’t bomb, but you still have no idea was ever released. Seriously, walk up to somebody in the streets and tell them a “Predator” sequel came out this year. You’ll most likely get one of two responses:
Nope. Brand new movie. Cast including an Oscar winner. Produced by Robert Rodriguez. In other words, all the same touches as Pelham 1-2-3 and nobody remembers it.
Although, Predators is probably even more forgotten. Most people probably at least remember the Denzel Washington telling his wife that he’ll get a half-gallon of milk during the TV spots and John Travolta then telling him he’s good-looking, but nobody remembers anything about Predators. Anything.
