Johnny Depp’s schedule keeps growing, growing, and growing. According to Vulture, the actor has his eye on a remake of The Thin Man, the first of many films adapted from the Dashiell Hammett novel on the same name. Depp must be having a ball working with Rob Marshall on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides, because he wants him to direct The Thin Man as well.

The Thin Man centers on a former detective named Nick Charles who marries a wealthy, young socialite named Norah. The duo gets pulled into a web of lies, murder, and intrigue, which forces Charles out of retirement and he brings his new wife along for the ride. The film spawned a 6 picture franchise for MGM, which starred William Powell and Myrna Loy. Some of the titles include After the Thin Man, Shadow of the Thin Man, and The Thin Man Goes Home.

A script for the new Thin Man hasn’t been written yet, but Depp is eager to star and produce the film with his Warner Bros-based production company, Infinitum Nihil. As for Marshall, after he’s done with Pirates, he’s expected to meet with Universal about directing the big screen adaptation of the award winning play, Wicked. Unlike, The Thin Man, Wicked already has a screenplay, which could throw a monkey wrench in Depp’s plans.

Do you think Depp could play the Thin Man? Who should play his wife?
