After making her feature film debut in the Oscar nominated drama Precious, Gabourey Sidibe is trying to lighten things up. The actress already has a recurring role on the Showtime dramedy, “The Big C,” and according to EW, she’s just landed a part in the Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy flick, Tower Heist.
Tower Heist is just what the title suggests — it’s a heist movie, but with a Robin Hood twist. The story centers on operations and maintenance workers in a luxury Manhattan high-rise whose pension funds were looted by a Bernie Madoff-like Wall Street crook, who is living high style in a penthouse apartment, under house arrest. Led by an overworked building manager (Stiller), the workers use their knowledge of the inner workings of the building to rip him off.
The Wall Street crook in question is played by industry veteran Alan Alda, another actor who’s had his fair share of dramatic and comedic roles. Sidibe will be joined by Michael Pena, and both will star as maintenance worker’s and victims of Alda’s character. Tower Heist will be directed by Brett Ratner and is slated to hit theaters on November 4, 2011.
