This week is getting off to a really bad start. Just yesterday we learned that TV mom Barbara Billingsley of “Leave it to Beaver” fame died at the age of 94 and now we have to break more terrible news. Tom Bosley who’s most famous for playing the father of Ron Howard on the 70′s television series “Happy Days” has died. He was 83 years old.
Bosley’s death was attributed to a couple of things. The actor had an ongoing battle with lung cancer, and he had heart issues. He died of heart failure at 4 am on Tuesday morning according to his manager Sheryl Abrams. Bosley was 83 but still worked every now and again. His most recent screen credit was in the 2010 Jennifer Lopez comedy The Back-Up Plan. Prior to that he appeared on television and the Broadway stage.
Bosley most notably played the role of Howard Cunningham in the long running comedy, “Happy Days.” He was the patriarch of the family and a mentor to the Fonz aka Henry Winkler. He went on to have supporting roles on “Murder, She Wrote” as Sheriff Amos Tucker and he also appeared in “The Father Dowling Mysteries,” which ran from 1989 to 1991.
Bosley is survived by his wife, Patricia Carr, and daughter Amy Bosley.
RIP Tom Bosely.
