It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming Muppet movie, but today we’ve got some good news to report. According to THR, three actors are currently in negotiations to join the film including an Oscar winner and an Oscar nominee. Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones will add a more human element to the revamped Jason Segel production.
The story for the new Muppets movie, which comes from a screenplay written by Segel and Nicholas Stoller, centers on the puppets reuniting to put on a show to save a movie studio from folding. Segel will play the main “human lead” who’s trying to help them with their task.
“Adams will play Segel’s girlfriend, who joins him in the quest to gather the Muppets. Cooper is the greedy villain, who wants to buys the studio to dig for the oil hiding underneath it and who never thought the Muppets were funny to begin with. Jones would play an ABC exec.”
I can see Cooper executing the villain role with the slightest of ease. He’s an excellent choice for the part. Adams will be great if she plays the role as a chipper, flighty version of herself, and Jones just needs to transplant her character from The Social Network to this film and she’ll be set.
The Muppets is slated to hit theaters on December 25, 2011.
