We have some good and bad news to report regarding the upcoming Edgar Allen Poe adaptation, The Raven. The film has lost a star in Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner, but has gained two in his place. According to THR, British thespians Luke Evans (he’s been in everything lately) and Alice Eve are in talks to join the cast led by John Cusack.

Renner’s decision to leave The Raven might be the best thing that’s ever happened to Evan’s career. The actor who already has supporting parts in Tamara Drewe and Paul WS Anderson’s Three Musketeers, will take over the role that Renner has vacated. In the film he will play “a detective who partners with Poe (Cusack) to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author’s fiance (Eve) and has gone on a murders spree that mimics the author’s work.”

Renner was hit with a scheduling conflict, which caused him to back out of the project. At the moment he’s busy working as Tom Cruise’s sidekick in Mission Impossible 4, which is currently in production. The Raven begins shooting on November 9th in Budapest and Serbia, which are supposed to double for 1849 Baltimore. Interesting location scouting. Who knew?

The Raven will be directed by James McTeigue.

What do you think of the cast of The Raven so far?
