Shortly after the release of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon, it was announced that the studio planned on making a sequel. The news didn’t surprise anyone, it debuted at number one, and earned nearly $500 million at the worldwide box office making it one of the studio’s biggest films of 2010. The follow up will hit theaters in 2013, and will feature the return of your favorite voices including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, and more. Check it out…
In a press release sent out by DreamWorks they revealed:
The second chapter to the critically acclaimed 2010 blockbuster, How to Train Your Dragon – which has grossed nearly $500 million at the worldwide box office – will again feature the all-star voice talents of Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller and Kristen Wiig.
The sequel is being made under the creative guidance of Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders, and Bonnie Arnold. It is written and directed by DeBlois and produced by Arnold. Once again based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, the sequel is executive produced by Sanders and DeBlois.
We noticed that Gerard Butler’s name is nowhere to be found in this release. What’s that all about? Perhaps, Hiccup doesn’t need his dad anymore? This could be a solo adventure. Unlike the first film, director Dean DeBlois will helm the sequel solo, considering that his counterpart Chris Sanders is busy with another project (he’ll still serve as a producer).
If you can’t wait that long for more Toothless and Hiccup action, How to Train Your Dragon will be available of DVD and Blu-ray starting on October 15th. Yep, a Friday!
