Do you remember when Mike Myers tackled the role of the Cat in a Hat in Bo Welch’s live action feature of the same name? You don’t? Lucky you, because unfortunately that movie does exist and we remember it clearly! The actor might try to rectify himself by playing one of the most famous “Looney Tunes” characters of all, Pepe Le Pew.

According to Vulture, Myers is in talks to appear in a live action/CGI animated feature based on the cartoon character for Warner Bros. In the film, the French skunk and his love interest the unfortunate black cat, will be the only CGI characters while everyone else will be live action. It sounds similar to what they’re doing with the upcoming Smurfs movie.

“Created in 1945, Pepé Le Pew starred in over a dozen animated short films for Warner Bros., and one of them, Chuck Jones’s For Scent-imental Reasons, even won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Subject (Cartoons) in 1949.” The WB is desperately trying to revamp the “Looney Tunes” and “Merrie Melodies” line of characters, which includes Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and more. They rake in about $1 billion annually from licensing but that’s less than a fifth of what Disney makes with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and the Goofy gang.

That’s kind of sad and depressing. As a kid I always liked Warner Bros animation better than the Disney gang. The Disney animated movies were always better than the WB’s (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White), but their solo characters had more personality. They were edgier.

It’s hard to believe that Mike Myers is going to be the one to bring “Looney Tunes” back to its former glory.

What do you think of Mike Myers voicing Pepe Le Pew? When you were a kid did you like WB or Disney characters better?
