Emma Stone Confirmed to Play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man
By Krystal Clark
Earlier this week, there were rumors that Emma Stone was in negotiations to play Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot. That story has been turned on its ear by the studio who just sent out a press release announcing Stone has joined the Spidey team as Gwen Stacy. She’ll co-star alongside The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield who will play the title character and his alter ego Peter Parker. More on the casting…
Stone was up against some tough competition, and you’re probably asking yourself what did she have that the other girls didn’t? According to director Marc Webb, it all came down to a chemistry test with Garfield.
She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.
We knew Stone was a natural blond but we never once saw her as Stacy. She seems too fiery to play the role.
Some of her competitors for the part included Teresa Palmer, “Glee” star Dianna Agron, Georgina Haig, Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska, and Dominique McElligott. Stacy was last portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard as a perky blonde with a crush on Peter Parker in 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
What do you think of Emma Stone playing Gwen Stacy and not Mary Jane?

This is a weird choice. Gwen is supposed to be Peter's great lost love, so um..yeah, this works? Whatever, I'm not really into this movie anyway. Spidey 3 was horrid is what I'm saying.
