What do you do when your film features two of the most recognizable people on the planet? You make a poster that highlights the money shot — their faces! The first poster has been released for the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck thriller The Tourist. The film stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and like most movies that deal with a clueless man caught in a web of intrigue…”it all started when he met a woman.”
The tagline for The Tourist seems somewhat sexist but since Jolie’s character isn’t exactly trustworthy, it’s partially true. The story centers on an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.
This poster looks like it was made in a junior high PhotoShop class. They just superimposed their faces on top of each other against a plain background. This isn’t a good sign. It’s bad enough that the “chemistry” between these two in the trailer was non-existent, now we have to deal with this. It makes us think of dead fish. Cold, dead, fish.
The Tourist hits theaters on December 10th.
