2005 must love dogs 015 Christopher Plummer Joins Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

How many veteran actors does David Fincher need to make his adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? Apparently Stellan Skarsgard wasn’t enough, he had to go and pick up Christopher Plummer along the way. According to THR, Plummer has landed a pivotal and patriarchal role in the film, which might have him replacing Max von Sydow.

The trade reports that Plummer is in talks to play Henrik Vanger, a role that Sydow was rumored to have. It’s not clear what happened but it looks like Plummer landed the part instead. This is an interesting move considering both actors look alike, and are around the same age. Sydow did have one up on Plummer — he’s actually Swedish. It would have been nice to have Skarsgard joined by another native member of the country from which the material is based.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo centers on a middle-aged journalist who joins forces with a private investigator named Lisbeth Salander to solve a missing persons case that’s been open for decades. Daniel Craig plays the journalist, who’ll work alongside Rooney Mara as the young investigator. The cast also includes Robin Wright.

What do you think of Plummer joining the cast of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

I think he'll do great in that role, as you're never really sure until the end if Henrik is a good guy or a bad guy. I'm still kind of disappointed that the US feels the need to re-do these movies given that the Swedish ones were (so far) very good. I hope they don't over-sanitize it and diffuse the intensity.
