Alex Kurtzman is breaking away from his long time writing partner Roberto Orci to do his own thing. As one of the minds behind “Lost,” “Fringe,” Transformers, and Star Trek (just to name a few) Kurtzman is ready to move on to bigger things. The screenwriter is trying his hand at directing and it looks like the new James Kirk is in talks for the lead. We’re looking at you Chris Pine.
Pine is in early discussions to star in the film Welcome to People. It sounds like a weird, abstract title but here’s the basic premise. It centers on “a man who must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.”
We guess this sounds vaguely interesting. The actors who get cast as the the sister and son will be the deal breakers. What actress could play Pine’s sister believably and what 12 year old boy could we watch without getting annoyed? Even though Welcome to People marks a new point in Kurtzman’s career, he still collaborated with Orci on the screenplay, along with Jody Lambert. They’re also producing the film together through their Paper Products banner.
Do you think Pine can pull off this role? Who should play his relatives?
