Marvel is going to milk the entire roster of The Avengers until there’s nothing left. Not every member of the team has enough clout to have their own solo movie but that’s not stopping them from producing one for Black Widow. Word on the street is that Scarlett Johansson is in talks with the studio to do a spin-off that features her assassin character, Natasha Romanoff.
Marvel head Kevin Feige attended a press conference for the release of the Iron Man 2 DVD today and spoke about the studio’s plans for the future. He said, “We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts but The Avengers comes first.”
The actress will be reprising her role in 2012′s The Avengers, which will introduce another member of the elite team Hawkeye, who’ll be played by Jeremy Renner. We’re having doubts about Thor and Captain America let alone Black Widow. The character is tolerable in an ensemble but her nonexistent personality would be painful to watch in every scene of a film.
When was the last time a female superhero movie worked? Elektra and Catwoman are the first ones that come to mind and they bombed terribly. The only female comic we’d love to see is Wonder Woman but that’s DC Comics, and unfortunately she’s too much to handle for people right now.
Do you think Black Widow can hold her own movie together? What story should the film tell?
