It will be one big reunion for Tim Burton on his upcoming film Frankenweenie. According to Deadline, some of the major players for the remake of his 1984 short have been revealed. It looks like the director went through his filmography and decided to get the band back together with Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, and Martin Short.
The story of Frankenweenie centers on a dog who’s brought back to life after he gets hit by a car and dies. He gets stitched up by his owners, which gives him a Frankenstein-like appearance, hence the name. The film is scheduled to debut in theaters on March 9, 2012.
Ryder has been cast in the role of Elsa, and Landau will provide the voice of Mr. Rzykruski, while O’Hara and Short “will take on the voices of five characters each. Short plays Bob, Nassor, Toshiaki, Victor’s Dad and Mr. Bergermeister. O’Hara voices Edgar, Weird Girl, Victor’s Mom, and Gym Teacher.”
Talk about keeping it in the family. Ryder appeared as the female lead in Burton’s Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, where O’Hara also co-starred as her mother. O’Hara also voiced a character in A Nightmare Before Christmas. Short appeared in Mars Attacks! and Landau appeared in and won an Oscar for his performance in Burton’s Ed Wood.
