Unlike Deadpool, it looks like every other Ryan Reynolds film is moving along in production. According to Variety, a director has been hired to take on his upcoming supernatural comic adaptation, R.I.P.D. The film is a Universal Pictures production and will be directed by RED helmer, Robert Schwentke.

R.I.P.D. (short for Rest in Peace Department) centers on two police officers, one who has recently died and another who’s been dead for hundreds of years. As a matter of fact, the entire police force is filled with dead cops. Creepy isn’t it? Reynolds previously signed on for the film last spring, and the studio has finally nailed down someone to direct it. The movie is based on the comic of the same name by Peter Lenkov that’s distributed by Dark Horse.

Is it a coincidence that Schwentke has landed this gig? We think not! He has plenty of experience adapting this type of material and we’re sure he’s been on the studio’s radar for a while. On another note, all of Reynolds’ new films seem to be moving full speed ahead, yet poor little Deadpool can’t get an hour of anyone’s time. How sad.

What do you think of Schwentke directing R.I.P.D.? Is he the right choice?
