Joel McHale’s career received a huge boost after the first season of his NBC comedy “Community,” his supporting role in last year’s The Informant!, his long running gig as the host of E!’s “Talk Soup,” and his dancing stint during the opening of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. With that much exposure at his fingertips, what’s his next move? He’s going to play a dad and marry Jessica Alba!

According to Variety, McHale is the latest addition to Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Spy Kids sequel, Spy Kids 4. In the film Alba plays a retired spy who has been reactivated. She’s also the mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren. Guess who’s the daddy? It’s McHale!

He’ll star as her husband and the father of the preteens who are next in line to become young super spys. His character has been described as a “spy-hunting reporter,” which can’t be a good thing considering his family’s line of work.

Dimension has already set a release date of August 19, 2011 for the film, which is scheduled to begin production next month in Austin, Texas. Get ready!

What do you think of of McHale joining the Spy Kids cast? Do you think he’s the right choice?
