Finally, an actress we can believe in this part! If you have no idea what we’re talking about, let us get you up to speed. Director Alfonso Cuaron and his son penned the screenplay for a sci-fi film called Gravity, which was supposed to be a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie. The production hit a snag when the actress passed not once but twice on the film leaving it without a female lead. Weeks ago there were rumors that Scarlett Johannson and Blake Lively were possible replacements, but according to THR, a suitable and talented actress might take over instead — Natalie Portman.
The film will be a 3D tale that centers on “a woman stranded on a space station after satellite debris slams into it and wipes out the rest of the crew.” Robert Downey Jr. previously signed on to star in a supporting role and now that the studio has given Cuaron the green light to direct the $80 million project, he can relay an offer to Portman without a screen test. The actress is expected to read the latest draft of the script this week and make a decision shortly after.
Hopefully, Portman agrees to do the project so we can get this show on the road. Gravity is expected to begin production at the end of January before Downey has to start work on other projects (ahem, The Avengers).
Do you think Portman is the right actress to replace Jolie? Should she take the role?
