Over the past year or so, Liam Neeson has been signing on to some questionable films. We let The A-Team slide because of the nostalgia factor, but now he’s adding another military movie to his resume — Battleship. As in the Universal-Peter Berg directed adaptation of the popular Hasbro board game. What the hell?
According to Deadline, Neeson has signed on to play Admiral Shane, the Naval officer whose daughter Sam, played by Brooklyn Decker, is engaged to a young naval officer played by Taylor Kitsch. The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgard who stars as Kitsch’s older brother and singer Rihanna who plays a crew mate and weapons specialist. The film is currently shooting in Hawaii and is being co-produced by Berg, Scott Stuber, and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir.
We’ve got a bad feeling about this — a Spider-Man 3 level bad feeling. Remember when Bryce Dallas Howard was cast in the film as Gwen Stacy and James Cromwell was cast as her dad? Talk about wasted space! They better not do that to Neeson, he’s too good for that and this movie. This man literally has more talent in his pinky than everyone on the crew including the director.
Maybe he’s reached a point in his career where he just wants to have fun and not be so serious all the time. What do you think?
What do you think of Neeson joining Battleship?
