Earlier this month it was confirmed that Star Trek star Karl Urban had been chosen to take over the role of Judge Dredd in the live action reboot of the comic. The character was previously played by Sylvester Stallone and now the New Zealand actor is about to take his place. According to a recent report from Variety, Urban will now be joined by Juno co-star Olivia Thirlby.
The trade confirms that Thirlby will play “Judge Cassandra Anderson, a psychically powered rookie Judge who teams with Judge Joe Dredd for training.” She has an uneasy relationship with her mentor that barely resembles a friendship.
Judge Dredd is “set in a dystopian future, the British comic book adaptation focuses on a police force given the power to act as judge, jury and executioner to whomsoever they perceive to be part of the criminal element.”
If memory serves me correctly the character of Cassandra Anderson didn’t appear in the 1995 film. The only other young female judge present was Judge Hershey and she was played by Diane Lane. It sounds like their sticking closer to the comic this time around.
What do you think of Thirlby joining the cast of Judge Dredd?
