Sorry Kristin Kreuk fans, Lana Lang won’t be the female lead in the new Mission Impossible sequel. That honor went to Precious star, Paula Patton. Last week, we reported that Patton, Kreuk, and Lauren German had auditioned for the role and Paramount, Tom Cruise, JJ Abrams and the rest of the Mission Impossible 4 gang were weighing their options. Wednesday night they made their decision, and it went in Patton’s favor.
According to EW, Patton will play an up and coming female operative. We’re not sure if she’ll be a platonic partner or a seductive double agent. The plot for MI:4 is being kept under lock and key, but we do know that the film will be a reboot of the franchise. Besides Cruise and Patton, the cast also includes Ving Rhames and Jeremy Renner.
Patton was our first choice for the role, and we’re happy she was cast. Hopefully, this doesn’t interfere with her new gig as the ADA on “Law & Order: SVU.” There were rumors earlier this summer that she was set to join the long running NBC show.
Mission Impossible 4 will be directed by Brad Bird and opens in theaters on December 16, 2011.
What do you think of Patton joining the cast of Mission Impossible 4?
