The end of Steve Carell’s run on NBC’s “The Office” is upon us. We’ve known for a while that Carell was leaving the show, and the producers of the series are hard at work looking for a replacement. According to a report from EOnline, a new name has been thrown in as a possible contender — Harvey Keitel. Yes, the original Bad Lieutenant!

Producer and co-star Paul Lieberstein told E! that he’s got his eye on Keitel for the coveted manager’s position.

“He’s probably the only guy who can do it, and he’s doing TV now. I haven’t started any talks with his people, but Harvey would do a great job—a very different energy. And we don’t want to bring in another Michael, having someone play a very similar character because we have such a high regard for Steve.”

We agree with that part. They don’t need to bring in another Michael because it would be insulting to the viewers and the character, but Keitel? Really? Just the thought leaves a huge question mark over our heads. Apparently, the actor’s work on the short-lived ABC series “Life on Mars” is what caught Lieberstein’s attention and convinced him that he could do comedy.

“He’s a real tough guy, but I saw him in Life on Mars and I saw a lot more comedy in his work, just little slivers of it, little things he would do that made me think he’s capable of a lot more than what [he's done].”

If he does decide to take the job, Lieberstein’s already got part of his character figured out.

“He’s an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down, and he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years.”

Sounds like the ball is in your court Keitel. Don’t be a “last chance Harvey.” Yeah, that was pretty bad but it had to be said.

What do you think about Keitel as a possible replacement for Carell?
