How many teen idols does it take to make a good science fiction movie? Back in June we learned that 80s singing sensation Debbie Gibson and her arch-nemesis Tiffany were set to star in a television movie together. But not just any television movie, a SyFy original that features a ridiculous premise, bad special effects, and a questionable title like — Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.
According to ThirdAge, former drummer for the TV band The Monkees, Micky Dolenz has just joined the cast. That’s right! We’re moving from the eighties back two decades to the sixties. The actor who appeared on the self-titled series for both its seasons, has had his fair share of personal and professional problems but he’s trying to work his way back. What better way to do that than through a hilarious and fun SyFy Channel movie?
Mega Python vs Gatoroid centers on a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes. And an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators. We’re not sure how Dolenz fits into all of this, maybe he’ll be the villain?
The film is currently being shot in Los Angeles.
What do you think of the latest addition to the cast? Will you watch?
