The title of this article may sound confusing but bear with me. Could you see yourself watching a Mission Impossible film that wasn’t called Mission Impossible? Christopher Nolan made a Batman movie without Batman in the title (The Dark Knight) and it got a positive response, therefore Paramount is trying something similar with their spy series.

According to Variety, the studio is toying with the idea of re-branding the franchise slightly to widen its appeal. In other words, the current title has become synonymous with Tom Cruise and considering his current box office standing, that’s not a good thing. It’s one of the reasons they hired Jeremy Renner to play his sidekick because they need someone to neutralize his negative image.

Renner’s character might also take over the franchise once Cruise decides (or is forced) to jump ship. Mission Impossible is a lucrative franchise that Paramount is trying to push back to the top. Instead of focusing on Ethan Hunt, I think they should put all their energy into restructuring their Jack Ryan film series. They already have Chris Pine set as the star and if promoted correctly, it could make a lot more money than Mission Impossible:4 or whatever they want to call it.

What name could they give the new Mission Impossible series? Do you think a name change would help?
