Andie MacDowell has just signed on for the upcoming remake of Footloose. Back in June, after a tumultuous casting process the lead actor was announced in the form of newcomer Kenny Wormald. He’ll pick up where Kevin Bacon left off over 25 years ago and he’s bringing “Dancing With the Star’s” Julianne Hough with him. According to Entertainment Weekly. MacDowell has joined the cast in the supportive role of the preacher’s wife.
In the original, John Lithgow starred as the strict over the top reverend and in the remake that role will be occupied by Dennis Quaid. MacDowell will play Vi, his long suffering yet patient spouse. This won’t be the first time that these two have played a couple, they previously appeared together in the 2001 HBO film, Dinner with Friends.
Footloose will be directed by Craig Brewer, who previously helmed the urban drama Hustle & Flow. Kenny Ortega was originally set to direct Footloose but eventually dropped out. This was a trend set by Zac Efron and Chace Crawford who were both attached to play the lead role before they also decided to leave the film.
What do you think of MacDowell’s addition to the cast? Are you interested in seeing the Footloose remake?
