What are we going to do with Doug Liman? It’s been a while since we’ve heard about his Three Musketeers adaptation, which has been put on hold, and last week we posted the first trailer from his latest suspense film, Fair Game. According to Variety, he’s just signed on for another project entitled All You Need is Kill. Welcoming title isn’t it?
The trade is reporting that Liman has signed on to direct the film that can be described as Groundhog Day meets “Dead Like Me.” All You Need is Kill centers on “a new recruit in a war against aliens who finds himself caught in a time loop in which he wakes up in the past after having been killed on the battlefield. As the soldier’s death and resurrection repeat, his skills as a soldier grows as he attempts to change his fate.”
Warner Bros have been developing the film based on the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka since 2004. Liman has been the leading candidate to direct for months but they were feeling things out with their Three Musketeers film first. Now that he’s free, he’ll take on this dark, sci-fi action-thriller about death, aliens, and time-travel. Those are a lot of elements to put into one movie. Hopefully they’ll all work together and not against the film.
What do you think of Liman directing All You Need is Kill?
