HBO has confirmed that Tony and Oscar winning actor Kevin Spacey is up to star in a new HBO series, “The Crux.” The script has been caught up in a bidding was for the past few days with Showtime and other cable networks, but HBO seems to be the ones closing the deal with writer of the series Rod Lurie (Commander in Chief). If it all goes according to Lurie’s plan he’ll not only be writing, but also directing Spacey as the lead on his show.
It’s been confirmed that is the deal goes through Spacey will be playing a “charismatic cult leader” — for some reason this isn’t too hard to imagine. He’s definitely got the charisma and he seems to like challenging roles. I just wonder which “cult” it will be? After all, “Big Love” already has the Mormons covered. Perhaps it will be a fictitious cult, as long as there are no vampires, werewolves or witches, I’m set.
Spacey won’t only be acting on the show, but is also set to executive produce the series with his company Trigger Street Productions alongside partner Dana Brunetti. Rod Lurie and Marc Frydman will write the script and also executive produce.
Though this would be the film time starring in a series on HBO for Spacey, this is not his first time working with the network. In 2008 is partnered with the network on his Emmy-winning TV movie, “Recount”.
HBO is finalizing a deal to develop “The Crux” and according to EW, HBO has fast-tracked the show’s development, although an air date appears to not have been set.
Do you hope the deal goes through? Or would you rather this one get left behind?
