Remember that time period from the mid-nineties to the early 2000s when Morgan Freeman was the go to guy to play the old wise man who solves murders and conspiracies? Well, all good things but come to an end because one of the actor’s most well known characters will now be played by someone else. According to Deadline, the role of Dr. Alex Cross which Freeman previously played in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider is being revamped with Idris Elba.

The latest adventure featuring Dr. Cross will be based on the 12th book in the James Patterson series simply entitled, Cross. In the novel, “Cross tracks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before.” Isn’t that how it always starts with this man? There’s always a woman involved somehow. The original screenplay was written by Kerry Williamson and is being rewritten by David Twohy who will also direct.

Elba is perfect for this role. We love Morgan Freeman (who doesn’t) but he always seemed a bit too old for the part of Cross. He delivered a great performance each time he played the guy but there was always something holding him back. What do you think?
