The first trailer for Wes Craven’s latest film has been released and no it’s not Scream 4, it’s called My Soul To Take. The film was written and directed by Craven who takes a note from his older horror movies with the film’s premise that centers on a serial killer who goes after children. Does this M.O. sound familiar to anyone? Check out the trailer below…
My Soul to Take centers on a legendary serial killer in Riverton, Massachusetts who swears that he’ll one day return to kill the local children born on the night of his death. Now sixteen years later, seven teens are forced to face the supernatural possibility that he may have been reincarnated as one of them.
This would have worked if it wasn’t such an obvious homage to the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Spoiler alert for those of you who don’t know, but the little girl who always pops up in the dreams of Freddy’s victims is his daughter. The same daughter they took away from him after he murdered her mother and was convicted of all those child killings. He promised that he’d make them pay for taking his kid by taking theirs and lo’ and behold this movie has a similar plot.
They reveal entirely too much here. Thanks for letting us know that the main character is the dead, mutilated killer’s son who may or may not be following in his footsteps.
My Soul to Take stars Max Thieriot, John Magaro, Emily Meade, Nick Lashaway, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, Paulina Olszyinski, and Raul Esparza. My Soul to Take is scheduled to hit theaters on October 8th.
What do you think of the trailer? Does it look like A Nightmare on Elm Street rehashed?
