Whatever hope you had for a non-3D Avengers movie has been blown to hell according to a report from Showbiz 411. Previously Marvel confirmed that both Thor and Captain America would be converted to the format in post-production, so it would only make sense that The Avengers followed suit. But instead of it being converted later, it will actually be shot in 3D from the very beginning. We assume director Joss Whedon had a little something to do with that decision.

Roger Friedman claims that the 3D shoot is definitely happening after months of “will they or won’t they” from Marvel. The Avengers is scheduled to start production in February and will star Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo.

Besides the studio’s decision to convert Thor and Captain America, we should have known something was up when Whedon didn’t fully bash the 3D trend at Comic-Con. He participated in a panel alongside JJ Abrams, and when asked about Hollywood’s latest obsession the Star Trek director stated that he wasn’t a fan while Whedon said he doesn’t have a problem with it, as long as it makes sense for the film.

We don’t know what to say about this other than, Damn! Damn! Damn!

What do you think of The Avengers being in 3D?
