Fans of “Alias” rejoice! Michael Vartan who played Michael Vaughn on the JJ Abrams spy series has been keeping a low profile when it comes to big, feature films but he’s got a new gig. His career has been staying afloat with television roles including his current run as Dr. Tom Wakefield on the popular medical drama “Hawthorne.” Now according to THR, he’s about to take a leap from the halls of a hospital to the dangerous world of assassins in Colombiana.

Colombiana is an action flick produced and co-written by Luc Besson and directed by Transporter 3 helmer Olivier Megaton. It centers on “a woman (Saldana) who as a child witnessed her parents’ murder in Bogota. She grows up to become a hitwoman by day but in her personal time engages in vigilante murders to lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ deaths.”

Vartan will star as Saldana’s boyfriend, an artist who is completely in the dark when it comes to her line of work. He’s the only thing that links her to the normal world. Something tells me that her love for him will become a liability somewhere in the movie. Isn’t that how it always works? Assassins can’t have relationships with people, they always die.

Either way, it’s good to see Vartan land such a high profile part. He’s a talented actor who deserves to get as much work in movies as he does in television.

What do you think of Vartan joining the cast of Colombiana? Are you excited that he joined the film?
