Sean Penn is an extremely talented actor, and despite his personal affiliations you can’t knock the guy’s work. With two Oscars under his belt he’s still on the look out for hard hitting material like his latest gig, Genius. According to Reuters, Penn is in talks to play a famous literary editor in the film who oversaw the release of works by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. The character is described as “eccentric,” which means the actor will have free reign to turn it up a notch.
Genius is based on the award winning biography “Max Perkins: Editor of Genius” by A. Scott Berg. “The movie will focus on the relationship between the fedora-wearing editor-in-chief at New York publishing house Scribner and a young Thomas Wolfe, though the script is peopled with literary characters.” Sounds interesting.
What’s even more intriguing is the fact that Bill Pohlad will direct the film. He hasn’t helmed a movie in 20 years, we’re talking since 1990′s Old Explorers. He’s jumping back into the saddle in a big way with Penn as his lead. Lucky for him, he’s been producing movies during his time off including Penn’s very own Into the Wild.
What do you think of Sean Penn starring in Genius?
