**Update: There’s also word that Kara DioGuardi has been let go from the show according to TMZ.

The music-television hybrid that “American Idol” is unfortunately puts it on our radar in terms of coverage. The reality show has gone through many ups and downs over the past few months, and by downs we mean its ratings. The show isn’t the juggernaut that it used to be and the producers can’t take a hint. Even with the absence of Simon Cowell, and now Ellen DeGeneres’ departure they’re still trying to make it work — with Jennifer Lopez.

According to People, Jenny from the Block will have a seat next to Randy and Kara when “American Idol” returns. Sources close to the “situation” claim that Lopez has already signed a deal to be the newest judge for the 10th season of the show. The news literally came hours after DeGeneres announced that she was leaving because of her “busy work schedule.”

Apparently, Lopez’ manager Benny Medina put the actress-singer’s deal in motion. Reps from Fox and “American Idol’s” production company Freemantle Media aren’t commenting on the story but from what we’re hearing it’s happening. Even though Lopez’ voice isn’t the strongest it’s 10 times better than anything Paula Abdul could bring to the table.

Why is it that this show always goes for female judges who are better dancers than vocalists? Isn’t this a singing competition? Where’s Whitney?

What do you think about Jennifer Lopez joining American Idol? Will you be watching?
