William Shatner Doesn’t Want Bleeps, Wants the S-Word!
By Krystal Clark
It’s no secret that William Shatner has signed on for and will star in a new CBS comedy called “$#*! My Dad Says“. It’s based on the popular Twitter page of the same name, where someone’s father dishes out the cold hard facts of life to the general public. On Wednesday the actor attended a Fall Preview , where countless members of the press got to see what awaits us next season. It was there that Shatner let loose on the show’s title. He wants “shit” in there and he wants it now!
Even though executives from CBS were in attendance at the preview event Shatner let his feelings be known on the naming matter. At the moment, they’re considering the title “Bleep My Dad Says,” and here’s what the actor had to say about that:
“You know what I wish? I wish they’d call it ‘Sh–’. “The word sh– is all around us,” he continued. “It isn’t a terrible term. Why are we pussy-footing?”
Well, Shatner the network doesn’t want the FCC all over their asses that’s why. CBS has literally been scared shitless to put anything on TV that’s mildly offensive since the Super Bowl and “nipplegate.” The title would be funny but costly as well.
What do you think of the show’s title? Should they change it?

I agree with William Shatner–what makes shit such a terrible word that it has to be bleeped. However – bastard, sonofabitch, etc can be said. I don't and never have been able to figure that out?????????

How is this going to make us better?
I thought Canadians were supposed to be more civil–"less VULGAR" than us lowly Americans.
"F-word" is also everywhere…. I don't want to see it/hear it on TV/radio.

Censorship rules are actually a lot looser here in Canada.

I don't see the point of bleeping. But also, I don't understand why use the word at all in the context of that title. Shit is meant to refer to something that is shitty, something that really sucks. People get too lazy and start using it to replace the word "Stuff" or "Advice" or "Things" or whatever.
Leave it out.

South Park did it. As long as it's on after 10, I'm fine with it. Promos could be changed for earlier viewers.

I'm 60 now. When I was young I was told that profanity was a 'crutch of the illiterate'…..So I tried to use less profane words in speaking to people. Attempting to teach my 5 year old grandson to not use profanity is nearly impossible today. It's so commonplace to cuss these days. I still feel that people should try and curtail the use of offensive words. Those words are plugged in to add 'spice' when people can't think of a more suitable comment…..
