Who would have thought that back in 1991 the street-wise Boston kid who couldn’t keep his hands off his crotch or his pants on his butt would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Mark Wahlberg has really done a complete 180 from where he began almost 20 years ago in this business. He went from feeling good vibrations to acting opposite Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio. Now he’s going down in history by getting one of the most prestigious honors in the movie industry.
Thursday, July 29, 2010 is the day that Wahlberg will receive the 2,414th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Let’s take a short stroll down memory lane shall we? Wahlberg is the younger brother of fellow musician turned actor Donnie (from New Kids on the Block) who got into the business as the lead rapper in the group, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
From there on he got a lot of media attention for his inability to keep clothes on and his risque Calvin Klein ads. Yeah, the poster of him in the white boxer briefs used to be my desktop wallpaper in high school (sue me!)
During the mid-nineties he steadily made the transition to acting with roles in Renaissance Man and Fear but got his big break in the porn themed, Boogie Nights. He officially went back to his birth name and started taking his acting craft more seriously. Along the way the bad seed from the streets started a family and somehow racked up an Oscar nomination.
Let’s also not forget that he produces some of the most popular shows on cable right now, “Entourage,” “In Treatment,” the freshman series”How to Make It In America” and the highly anticipated “Boardwalk Empire.” Not bad for a kid who many said would never amount to anything.
Congrats Mark, you deserve it!
