If you were a fan of Gemma Arterton’s performance in Clash of the Titans, get ready because there’s more where that came from. The actress starred as Io, the love interest/watcher of Sam Worthington’s Perseus and according to a recent interview with MTV she plans on her character being bigger, badder, and stronger when she returns for the sequel.
According to the actress:
“I think I am doing the second ‘Clash,’” Arterton said. “I don’t know anything about it yet though. It’s one of those things.” When asked whether she is signed on to reprise the role of river goddess Io officially, Arterton said her contract for the original film included the option of signing her to future chapters of Clash.
“When you’re offered the original role they option you on further movies, they do,” she said. “It’s always dependent on whether the film does well at the box office, which it did. I think she needs to be less mythical and more real and go for the fighting,” she said. “It’s fun, as well, doing all that stuff.”
If you haven’t already seen the movie, this might come across as a mild spoiler so beware. Her character doesn’t die and we’re left under the impression that her and Perseus get together at the end. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to randomly get rid of her when she was one of the last images we saw in the first movie…alive and well.
Do you think Arterton will return for Clash of the Titans 2?
