Some rumors just won’t die and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s attachment to Batman 3 is one of them. Ever since the release of The Dark Knight the actor has been named as a possible replacement for Heath Ledger’s Joker as well as a candidate to play The Riddler. Levitt’s involvement with Christopher Nolan’s newest film Inception has only fueled the speculation but now there’s a report that there may be some truth to the rumors.
According to FirstShowing, they’ve got some inside info regarding the casting roster for the next Batman film. Their “reliable source” confirmed that The Riddler is listed as one of the characters in the sequel. We already felt that coming a mile a way but the big news is that next to the character’s name on the casting grid is Levitt and he’s listed as “interested.” Dun! Dun! Dun! Dun!!!
They stress that we should take this as more of a confirmation that The Riddler will be the villain as opposed to Levitt being cast to play the role. One of the reasons has to do with the character’s age. He’s described as a 35-45 year old male and Levitt’s only 29. This is Hollywood and you can stretch things out a bit (Ledger was even younger when he played The Joker) but Levitt has that youthful face. He could still play a teenager if he wanted to.
What do you think of The Riddler being the villain in Batman 3?
