The Glenn Close led drama “Damages” had been a critical success for the FX cable network but unfortunately it wasn’t bringing in the numbers. Last May while promoting Get Him to The Greek co-star Rose Byrne spoke about the show’s uncertain future and stated that DirecTV could become the series’ new home but nothing had been confirmed. Fast forward a couple months later and we’ve got an official deal for not one but two more seasons!

When we previously spoke to Byrne about why the show was getting the cold shoulder she stated,

Anything’s possible at this stage but John Landgraf [FX President] I think has publicly said on record that they’re very proud of the show but the numbers weren’t quite high enough for them. So I think they’re looking elsewhere to see if there’s life beyond FX.

According to THR, the satellite service has picked up “Damages” for two more seasons (20 episodes total, 10 each) for Channel 101. They’ve also gained the rights to air episodes from seasons one through three. Unlike the deal that NBC set in place with DirecTV for “Friday Night Lights,” it won’t air on satellite and then on its original channel later on.

FX released a classy statement regarding the show’s move:

“FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DIRECTV and we are thrilled they stepped in. Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”

DirecTV is like cable/ broadcast television heaven. It’s everyone’s salvation! New episodes of “Damages” begin airing in 2011.

Are you excited for the next couple seasons of Damages?
