With Christopher Nolan’s Inception hitting theaters today and Batman 3 starting production in April, talk has turned to his younger brother Jonathan Nolan and his directorial debut. He’s established a pretty solid career as a screenwriter and is said to be the first choice to helm Warner Bros upcoming Superman reboot. Nothing has been set in stone but it looks like he’s up for the gig and a well known TV star is the first choice to play the Man of Steel.
According to Moviehole, an insider close to the studio and the film had this to say about Nolan’s involvement in the project,
“Jonathan Nolan is not onboard yet, but it looks like he will get the job. Jonah wants to direct, Chris wants to land him that gig, WB doesn’t want to upset Chris. That said, it is far from a done deal — but with Chris and Emma producing, the odds are with Jonah – kind of like Michael Mann producing his daughter’s first feature: “How bad could things go?.”Also, it is a TV star that they’re looking at for the lead – but, despite what that article says, I don’t believe anyone has actually tested.”
I already know a lot of you are screaming Tom Welling because there was such an uproar when Brandon Routh was cast in 2006′s Superman Returns and Welling was ignored. “Smallville” is entering its last season and he will have some free time on his hands but at this point it’s all speculation. One thing is for sure, Routh won’t be back because the general public hated his performance in the last film. The studio wants him but they know the people don’t (I didn’t think he was that bad though).
Do you think Jonathan Nolan should direct the new Superman? What TV star do you think could be cast in the role?
